Reflection (march 21 2012)

Book reflection: For me tuesday with morrie grates lesson has been that "once you learn how to die you learn how to live" For me this quote represents that when you die you have your life figured out, you are in peace with yourself, you have made peace with your demons. Once you have accomplished all of this you will learn how is to live, how to live truly happy and in peace. This quote also can mean that in order to live life to the fullest you have to understand yourself, do what you want to do, work on whatever you want to; specially don't be forced into a career yo don't like.

Self reflection: Something that motivates me is learning about a topic that i can relate to. For example if we studied physics I would be much more motivated if we used as an experiment or example kicking a soccer ball than if we would just read a powerpoint as we normally do. Another example would be to study the roman culture, since I am partly Italian and I have visited Italy plenty of times I would feel motivated on learning about the roman culture. Something that kills my motivation is the abuse of power; when a teacher tells you exactly what to do, how to do it and when to do it; for me that is the maximum motivation killer.

Tuesday With Morrie, Blog Post

Today in class we discussed how morrie chapter by chapter is deteriorating. Even though he know he does not have much time left he always keeps this positive attitude. This for me is a very important and valuable lesson that we can carrie among all of our life's because this shows us that due that he is able to maintain a positive attitude Morrie is being able to actually LIVE whats rest of his life. This teaches me that a negative attitude and looking at the negative aspects of life will only ruin my spirit, instead if I look at the good side even in a complicated situation I will eventually be able to get over it.
I think that this individual teaching is a good method to succeed and learn. We know that if we don't do the work, write the posts, reflect on the messages of the book, analyse commercials and brainstorm ideas we will not be successful in this unit so we have to stay on task and do the work because if you dont you are not only auto-sabotaging yourself but you are retaining your group from learning and doing well in this unit.

Monday (week 2) analysis

One theme, that from my point of view is one of the essential lessons that this book teaches you is the support that one, just one person can provide. One important point that we touched in our group discussion was how Mitch starts to reflect upon his life, and starts to become the genuine person he was when he, Mitch, was in collage. Morrie is able to make Mitch reflect about how all of the job people have, how all of the stress our chaotic life gives us, blind fold us. All of the preoccupation's we have do not let us live the life to the fullest, we are so concerned about money and that job upgrade that we do not fight for thing we REALY want to do. Mitch as 99% of the people around the world would have never of thought about. Once Morrie touched this subject Mitch started to understand Morrie's point of view, this showed how one person, just one person could eventually, we are not sure yet, change a man's perspective towards life.

Group Reflection

Monday 25: Today I realized how hard it was to work alone specialy on the first day, if I miss a day I will try to make sure that I tell them so I can still do the work. Also today I was talked with a friend a bit, next time I will try not to sit with friends because I know that I can be distracted specially when I have not seen them in over a month.

Wednesday 27: Today our group got  together and discussed the themes of the book, it is important for all of us to keep reading because otherwise if someone does not reed it will affect the group. As well we discussed the theme of positivity which is shown when Morrie is told about his illness but even though he knows he is going to die he does not let time pass him by.

Thursday 28: Today we discussed the themes seen in this part of the book, one thim that some members of my group including me could relate to is the feeling of seeing someone that is your friend after a long time, that moment when you remember the special connection you have with that person. This is seen in the book when Mitch and Morrie reunite for the first time after Mitch had graduated. We also discussed how when you reunited with a person who you have not seen in a long time you start talking about what has happened in your life.
Overall I believe that we worked well today, we managed to discuss in detail the section of the book that we were assigned to read, as we worked well and fast, in a efficient manner we were able to gather time to brainstorm about ideas which we could make the commercial about so when we have to do the commercial we can have several ideas in which our commercial can be based.

Group discussion
Wednesday 27: So far in the book showed the theme of positivity, this is showed when Morrie is told by doctors that he has only 2 years left, even though that body was deteriorating he always maintained a positive attitude.
We can connect the book with our school because in the book Morrie had a living funeral which consisted of a gathering of people which had a purpose of telling Morrie how they felt towards him. In the school when people leave or graduate many of them gave a gathering in which friends and loved ones get together and express how they feel towards them.

Thursday 28: When Mitch saw Morrie in his middle of his business conversation he keep talking and when he was done he went to talk with morrie, it looks as if Mitch fell ashamed of letting Morrie, his friend, his teacher, wait over a business call.
-Mitch has a chaotic life, everything has a schedual
-Morrie tells that Mitch is a nice person but Mitch feels he is wrong, this shows how Mitch feels that he has changed, he is not the same person who went to Morrie’s class.
-When he is very workaholic
-Mitch gets depressed since he never accomplished to achieve his dreams of being famous, moreover for a living he rights about famous athletes.
-For the past 6 years he was only thinking about his job and earning money but once his company broke he realized that he now had time to do several things that when working he would not be able to do.
